Carroll County is located in the State of Maryland. As of 2000, the population was 150,897. It was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Carroll County was created in 1837.
Carroll County, Maryland is a 452 square mile area that is 31 miles northwest of Baltimore and 56 miles north of Washington D.C. It is one of the seven jurisdictions that comprise the Baltimore metropolitan area. The County government center is Westminster.

Eight municipalities comprise Carroll County - Westminster, Taneytown, Union Bridge, New Windsor, Mt. Airy, Sykesville, Hampstead and Manchester. Other communities within Carroll County include: Carrollton, Carrolltowne, Detour, Eldersburg, Finksburg, Gaither, Gamber, Greenmount, Henryton, Jasontown, Keymar, Lineboro, Linwood, Louisville, Marriottsville, Mills, Patapsco, and Woodstock.
